Location: Cote D’Ivoire
Summary: Following the 2010 elections, conflict broke out in Cote D’Ivoire leading to the loss of thousands of lives and displacement of people. With the proliferation of small arms in the region during this crisis, women and girls became targets of rampant sexual violence both by security forces, militia and new forces. Cognizant of this fact, UAF-Africa supported Reseau Femme Espoir to set up a counselling centre and a database on the violations of women’s rights that were happening uncurbed. This was necessary as this record provided the empirical evidence necessary to persecute the violators.
