From the 25th to 27th of October, 2016, Urgent Action Fund (UAF) – Africa and the WoMin African Gender and Extractives Alliance are hosting a convening in Entebbe, Uganda themed ‘Moving Above and Beyond Extractives: Strengthening African Feminist Development Alternatives.’ Although it is a small convening which aims to deepen feminist collective thinking about feminist development alternatives, it targets WHRDs active in the extractives sector to explore issues including alternative development models; provide a robust platform to raise critical issues affecting women in the extractive industries; profile and raise awareness on the needs and challenges of women activists challenging violations and inequitable conditions within the extractive industries, among other focus areas aiming to charter an agenda for feminist issues and engagements in the extractives sector. Participants include practitioners, activists, organisers and feminist academics. It involves a few carefully targeted feminists from other regions of the few carefully targeted feminists from other regions of the world to inform and inspire women. It’s a space of learning, exchange and debate on the political, conceptual and practical dimensions of African feminist development alternatives that women are organising for at the regional and international levels.
